Splash Shield Modification

The stock rear disk splash shield interferes with the installation of the caliper and brackets – not by much, but it does need to be addressed. You will need to either remove the splash shield entirely or modify the existing “notch”.

If you choose to modify the shield, you will have to remove a strip of metal about ½” in height (this ½” extra on each side starting from the widest point) on either side of the existing notch. The cuts should be straight, not "radial" from the center. The cut finishes with more metal removed at the bottom of the cut than at the top.

Starting from the outer edge of the shield, these parallel cuts proceed in toward the other side of the shield, but can stop at the bolts which attach the adaptor to the axle. (However, a bit of extra clearance won't hurt at all.) This should yield a square notch (cuts will be parallel to each other – the original is a tapered notch of sorts) to clear the adaptor.
